Ready Mix Concrete: What is it?
Ready mix concrete (or RMC) is the most popular type of concrete. It is used to construct foundations, bridge, sidewalks, driveways, and many other structures. Ready mix concrete is made from cement, water, and some type of aggregate (crushed rock, sand, gravel, etc.). The concrete is made off-site at a plant, rather than at the construction site. Each batch is made to meet the individual project’s specifications and then delivered to the site.
Each batch tends to last anywhere from 1-3 hours, after which the integrity of the material is compromised. Ready mix concrete is typically delivered by a large truck with a revolving drum (also called a mixer). The concrete arrives as a paste that then hardens and cures into a very strong and durable material.
